Nuihc is Chiun’s nephew, a member of Sinanju and a student of the martial discipline that bears the village’s name in The Destroyer. Chiun trained him as a potential successor, but Nuihc turned to crime and deserted the village. His training gave him the skills of a Master; it did not make him loyal to Sinanju’s obligations.
Rivalry with Chiun
Chiun’s succession story places Nuihc at the center of a family and political rupture. Chiun says the nephew left the village and practiced Sinanju for himself without sending tribute home. Later narration describes villagers siding with Nuihc as he claimed the title of Master, sought to displace Chiun and considered selling Sinanju’s interests to North Korea. These accounts portray a rival who wanted both the authority of the tradition and the village’s resources, while rejecting its service to the community.
A patient and deceptive opponent
Nuihc’s attacks often serve as deliberate invitations to a personal contest. He sends Chiun coded warnings, then reveals himself as their author. He arranges terror attacks to draw Chiun and Remo into separate traps, hides weapons in reinforced wheelchairs, and uses Joan Hacker’s revolutionary cause as cover for his own plan. When Joan frees him, he strikes her and escapes, leaving her to die after she alerts Remo.
The oil-field confrontation
Nuihc later engineers killings of researchers and an oil embargo to lure Remo and Chiun into a challenge. He kills Baraka after explaining the scheme. Chiun confronts him at the oil fields, where a ruptured derrick sends Nuihc into a gusher; the scene shows him carried away and buried under oil but does not establish his death.
Using another name
As “Winch,” Nuihc builds a second targeted confrontation around robberies and attacks on Remo, including an assault delivered through an agent. Chiun refuses to strike him because he remains a man of the village, even as Nuihc threatens Remo and Chiun’s title. Remo eventually hits him; Nuihc collapses dead, but Remo judges his blow nonfatal. Chiun says Nuihc died of fear, and Remo later notices evidence that leaves open whether Chiun struck him too.
Names and work
After leaving Sinanju, Nuihc travels under several names, including Inchu, Sun Yee, Uinch, Chuni and Mr. Winch. He works across Russia, China, India, Italy and African countries, selling his martial skills wherever killing pays. His aliases conceal him from ordinary targets but not from Chiun, the one person he says he fears.
The Dutchman and other legacies
Nuihc’s influence extends beyond his own fights. He trains Jeremiah Purcell, known as the Dutchman, for a campaign against Chiun; Purcell calls Nuihc his father, although the narrative says Nuihc never called him son. Much later, Purcell’s psychic influence over Mark Howard is tied to his distress about his relationship with Nuihc. Their connection helps explain why a conflict over succession keeps recurring after Nuihc’s apparent deaths.
Later schemes and survival
Nuihc’s later plans again target the village and its succession. In one plot he recruits Rail Ravello to attack the President from a coffin; Chiun saves the President and Remo kills Ravello. Nuihc is later shown alive. He remains alive in a later epilogue on Saint Martin, where he trains and coerces an unnamed boy. Thus the oil-field and “Winch” encounters do not mark his final end.
Stories about the past
Nuihc’s ideas about Sinanju’s origins are disputed within the story. He says his mother’s family account was easier to believe and that his hatred of Chiun drove him away. Later, he finds Jeremiah Purcell’s psychic abilities, trains him brutally and uses him as an enforcer for Viaselli in New York.

Explicit editorial recurring-identity resolution; source-specific names, roles and observations remain attached to their books. The core-group compatibility view is derived from this membership.
The recurring Sinanju-trained rival of Remo and Chiun. Book-specific motives, actions and relationship wording remain separate.
Chiun identifies Nuihc as his brother’s son and a Sinanju deserter; scene evidence establishes the shared rival. Evidence: witness:00000018:ch15:p0019, witness:00000018:ch16:p0096, witness:00000018:ch15:p0023
Remo recognizes Nuihc from the earlier confrontation. Nuihc identifies Chiun as his father’s brother and describes his House of Sinanju lineage. destroyer-097:nuihc: Book 97 identifies Nuihc the Renegade as Chiun’s nephew; Book 70 provides the matching genealogy: Chiun was born Nuihc, son of Nuihc, then trained a nephew also named Nuihc, who deserted and became the “base traitor.” Chiun reversed his own name to Chiun to distinguish himself from that renegade nephew. This supports linking the renegade observations to the nephew figure while keeping Chiun’s birth name and his father Nuihc as distinct same-name referents.
