The Destroyer#126Air RaidThe DestroyerBook 1262002
At the Geneva headquarters of the Congress of Concerned Scientists, engineered trees and a string of deaths draw Remo and Chiun into a dangerous investigation. Assigned to protect scientist Amanda Lifton, they follow an ecological project’s survivors and a hired killer from Switzerland toward Brazil.
While trying to satisfy a Sinanju good-deed obligation before formally becoming Reigning Master, Remo investigates the deaths tied to the Congress of Concerned Scientists’ engineered C. dioxa trees. St. Clair seals Brice Schumar in the greenhouse and leaves him to die in its toxic atmosphere; the scene’s speaker is once labeled “Carlin,” an unresolved source wording despite the surrounding St. Clair actions. Remo and Chiun are assigned to protect surviving scientist Amanda Lifton. St. Clair and hired killer Herr Hahn trap them in a simulated acid storm and later trigger an oil-fed chalet explosion, but the trio survives and Hahn escapes by boat. Remo finds one seed and infers that St. Clair removed the rest before destroying the trees.
In Chim’bor’s account, his brother Sor’acha reaches for blue fruit in a dangerous forest, struggles to breathe, and falls to his death; the text does not say he eats a seed or establish the cause of his breathing trouble. Chim’bor later sees St. Clair’s group ship seed sacks from Macapa toward the rainforest; a monkey eats one seed, spills more, and is stopped while the men gather the seeds back. Smith sends Remo, Chiun and Amanda to Brazil. In a separate scene, retired American Benson Dilkes warns Olivier after identifying two unnamed men as Masters of Sinanju. Singer and activist Prick, formerly Albert Snowden of Fuzz Patrol, arrives in Macapa for the Pan Brazil Eco-Fest with two unnamed Indigenous attendants whom Remo recognizes from the New York benefit.
Remo and Chiun find a planted map on the CCS jet. Hahn says they took the bait and follows them, expecting the pursuit to continue into the Amazon. The supplied text ends before they reach the marked site or resolve St. Clair, Hahn, Prick or the seed threat.
Full articles
St. Clair demonstrates the blue seed and engineered trees, seals Schumar inside the greenhouse, and leaves him to die in the toxic atmosphere. A speaker line says “Carlin” during the death scene, while surrounding actions identify St. Clair; the chapter does not show seeds being taken.
Remo tries several acts of kindness that backfire, then disrupts the Glory Whole/But Me No Butz benefit performance. He considers whether the satisfaction may meet Master Nik’s tradition.
Smith briefs Remo and Chiun on deaths and missing CCS scientists and the hazardous C. dioxa project, then sends them to protect Amanda Lifton and investigate.
Amanda’s family background and CCS work are established; she meets Remo and Chiun, who undertake her protection.
St. Clair traps Amanda, Remo and Chiun in the greenhouse’s simulated acid storm. They struggle to escape, and the chapter ends with them in apparent danger.
Hahn’s viewpoint reveals that he was hired to kill Amanda and operates the greenhouse controls. Remo, Chiun and Amanda escape; Hahn intends to face them again.
Mark Howard has another dream about the Folcroft “Beast.” Remo later reports the attack and finds one surviving blue seed.
Remo compares Amanda’s photograph of seeded trees with the destroyed greenhouse trees and concludes that St. Clair removed the stock; the team leaves to pursue him.
At the former Carlin residence, Remo and Chiun find evidence of a seed cache and an oil system. Hahn remotely triggers an oil-fed explosion; this chapter does not establish his later belief about their fate.
Remo and Chiun survive and pursue Hahn to Lake Geneva, where he escapes by boat. They return toward the burning chalet to find Amanda; Hahn’s viewpoint shows that he believes the trio died.
In Chim’bor’s recollection, Sor’acha reaches for blue fruit, struggles to breathe and falls to his death; the text does not say he eats a seed. Years later in Macapa, Chim’bor sees a monkey eat one seed and spill others from a sack; the workers gather them back before the boats leave with seed cargo. The scope and final prediction remain Chim’bor’s account.
Smith locates St. Clair’s CCS flight and arranges for Remo, Chiun and Amanda to follow it to Macapa; they discuss the seeds and Hahn’s limited description.
Olivier reports failing to acquire two men. Dilkes recognizes the description as Sinanju and warns him away; this chapter does not identify the targets by name.
The chapter recounts Prick/Albert Snowden’s career and rainforest activism. He travels to Macapa for the Pan Brazil Eco-Fest with two unnamed Indigenous attendants.
Remo and Chiun search the CCS jet in Macapa, find the map and encounter Prick. Hahn says the map was bait and follows them; they head toward the terminal, and the supplied text ends before an Amazon expedition begins.
