Hank Bindle is the creative arm of the producing partnership he runs with Bruce Marmelstein in The Destroyer. Their studio, Taurus, finances films through a cocaine-dealing connection, and Bindle participates in the threats used to silence a writer who uncovers it. He and Marmelstein later co-chair the studio, styling themselves as “Magic Makers.”

A producer, not a reader

Bindle pitches projects and promises to produce scripts, although he and Marmelstein admit they do not actually read them. Their business partnership operates through rivalry and spectacle, with competing desks and studio sets reinforcing the duo’s comic self-importance. Bindle tells Smith they can do Hamlet and produce it at every step.

Staged bombing and the end of Taurus

Remo later credits the pair with helping avert a Middle East crisis. Bindle and Marmelstein pay for a staged bombing at Taurus to create publicity, insurance proceeds and higher box-office returns. Their testimony about a White House operation conflicts with their initial account. They die in the aftermath, and Remo later describes Taurus as unstable because the pair had diverted studio property to themselves; litigation by their relatives is expected to continue.
