Fitness guru Felix Foxx is really Felix Vaux, a former procaine researcher who has kept himself youthful with a formula the novel says was made from human-derived procaine. He murders Irma Schwartz after she describes an unusual lack of pain that he connects to procaine; her autopsy later shows unusually low procaine. He sells daily injections to wealthy Shangri-la members, while using the drug to recruit and sustain a private Team of aging soldiers. Riley’s account says the Team carried out missions including the assassinations of the Secretaries of the Air Force and Navy, then Army Secretary Clive Dobbins; its sponsor, Zadnia’s dictator Ruomid Halaffa, next orders them to kill the unnamed U.S. President.

Remo follows Foxx from Pennsylvania to the Black Hills, where he disarms the Team and releases its surviving members with their remaining medicine. Foxx has already fled. The Shangri-la guests, including Remo’s new love Posie Ponselle, die after their formula supply runs out; Seymour Burdich freezes while trying to get help. Remo and Chiun pursue Foxx to Zadnia, where Halaffa rejects Foxx’s appeal for asylum. Remo kills Foxx, who rapidly ages and decays after death, then he and Chiun defeat Halaffa’s guards; Halaffa falls from a tower after the crowd ignores his appeal. Smith later reports fifteen old soldiers dead in the Black Hills of South Dakota and suspects they were the Team’s released members, but Chiun evades confirmation. Remo arranges the photograph of Cheeta Ching that Chiun requested and quietly grieves for Posie.

Killing Time:

Publisher's description: A celebrity diet guru attracts followers as senior military figures die, prompting CURE to investigate a possible connection.

Presidential clues

Current U.S. President: historical identity unresolved.

The unnamed U.S. President

The President learns of the murdered Secretaries and is identified by Foxx/Riley as the next assassination target; no personal name, biography or term dates appear.

  • The narrator describes CURE’s secret red-phone information being passed between administrations; this is narration rather than Smith’s direct speech (ch02:p0102–p0105).
  • Smith says the President is alarmed after Watson and Ives are killed, while the Secret Service guards Dobbins and key people around the President; the cited passage does not explicitly assign the order to the President (ch02:p0264–p0276).
  • Halaffa orders Foxx to assassinate the unnamed President after the three secretaries (ch15:p0073–p0082).
  • Foxx’s final Zadnian plan continues to target the President (ch18:p0076–p0094).
  • Smith’s on-page telephone conversation contains two brief direct presidential replies; the longer presidential statement is unheard by the reader (ch13:p0020–p0022).

unresolved

No personal name or administration-specific biographical clue is supplied. Copyright and an embedded mail-order availability date are not treated as a story date.

The unnamed past President who founded CURE

John F. Kennedy

  • The narration says a long-dead President created CURE as an emergency instrument and hand-picked Smith (ch02:p0102–p0110).

Strong cross-book identity inference: Book 26 explicitly attributes CURE’s founding to John Kennedy/John F. Kennedy. This book’s founder remains unnamed.

This is a cross-book inference about the recurring CURE founder, not a personal name printed in this book or a verified story date. Book 26 presents the explicit attribution through a former President’s account.

Ngo Dinh Diem (historical mention)

Ngo Dinh Diem

  • Riley’s account explicitly names Ngo Dinh Diem as the Vietnamese President and places the alleged Team mission in 1963.

explicit historical name

The name is explicit; the fictional Team’s claimed involvement remains attributed and does not date the present-day plot.
