Boldbator is a Mongol leader who becomes known as Boldbator Khan in the novels. His stories connect a search for the treasure of Temujin to the creation of a Mongol force called the New Golden Horde and later missions involving Chiun, Kula and Remo.

[1]

The treasure of Temujin

Boldbator first appears seeking the treasure of Temujin. He joins Chiun’s search and calls for Mongols to ride with them. In the later retrospective account, Chiun and Boldbator share the recovered treasure after the Mongol force resists Chinese troops trying to claim it.

[2]

Khan and the New Golden Horde

During the search, Boldbator calls himself Khan and says he has come to ransom Chiun from the Nameless One. At Sinanju, he and Kula later offer farewells before leaving. A subsequent appearance identifies him as Khan of the New Golden Horde.

Later missions

In a later crisis in Tibet, Boldbator sends Kula to find Remo and has hired Chiun to locate the Bunji Lama. Kula says the Khan wants China to surrender Tibet. That political aim echoes the earlier conflict with Chinese troops over the treasure, while the later novel supplies its own immediate context and stakes.
